Content acquisition

The Federal Science Libraries Network negotiates agreements that provide demonstrated value by securing electronic content at favourable pricing and licensing terms for its partners.

In its support of Open Access (OA) initiatives, the network has negotiated transformative agreements, an umbrella term for contracts that merge reading access and article processing charges (APCs) into a single agreement. These agreements allow partner-affiliated corresponding authors to publish their journal articles OA immediately upon publication at no cost to them.

The following publishers have agreements with the Federal Science Libraries Network:

• American Chemical Society

  This agreement provides the partners read access to the American Chemical Society’s All Publications package and covers APCs for OA publishing. To learn more about the agreement, visit the publisher’s information page.

• Canadian Science Publishing

  This agreement provides read access to a package of journals and covers APCs for OA publishing in a subset of titles. A 25% APC discount for other titles and 15% APC discount for Gold journals are also available.

• Microbiology Society

  This agreement provides the partners read access to all of the Society’s journals and covers APCs for OA publishing. These benefits are the result of the network joining the Microbiology Society and Consortia Canada’s transformative agreement.

• Springer Nature

  This agreement provides read access to over 2,300 Springer journals and covers the APCs for OA publishing in more than 2,000 titles (Nature journals, most fully OA journals, and some third-party journals excluded). To learn more, visit the publisher’s information for authors’ page.
