Introducing the Federal Open Science Repository of Canada

The Federal Open Science Repository of Canada is a web-based platform for scientific articles and publications from Government of Canada science-based departments and agencies. It consolidates, preserves, and provides access to research output, including journal articles, book chapters, technical reports, and more from the federal government community.

The repository contains material from:

• Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
• Canadian Food Inspection Agency
• Canadian Space Agency
• Environment and Climate Change Canada
• Fisheries and Oceans Canada
• Health Canada
• Public Health Agency of Canada
• Transport Canada

The repository is scalable, customizable, and continues to grow as new scientific articles and publications become available. Site users can conveniently search, download, and share content from a single interface.

The Federal Science Libraries Network’s role

The Federal Science Libraries Network is pleased to partner with Shared Services Canada in this joint initiative as business and technical leads, respectively, working with partner departments and agencies to deliver a shared repository for Canadian researchers and users worldwide. The network, hosted by the National Research Council of Canada, plays a leadership role in overseeing repository governance, onboarding new members, communicating with stakeholders, and managing ongoing operational and financial activities.

Driven by open science

The Federal Open Science Repository of Canada represents a significant step towards achieving open access for federal science. The key recommendation for open access targets for federal science articles and publications, championed by the Office of the Chief Science Advisor of Canada, outlines a Roadmap for Open Science. The repository responds to this recommendation by providing a secure, shared tool and infrastructure where government departments can deposit their publications, making them widely available at no cost to end users. In addition, the repository enables core benefits of open science, including increased availability of information, improved transparency and accountability, better engagement, reduced duplication of effort, and accelerated knowledge and discovery.
